Go Whale Watching in Moorea and Swim With the Majestic Humpback Whales!
Every year, between July and early November, numerous marine mammals—including the majestic humpback whales—migrate to the Pacific Ocean, specifically to the waters of French Polynesia. Moorea is one of the world’s premier destinations for observing them in their natural habitat. It’s a unique opportunity to get up close to them and experience an extraordinary moment in the heart of their environment.
During this excursion, we may also encounter bottlenose dolphins, pilot whales, and, depending on conditions, pelagic sharks.
If the open-sea trip goes smoothly and the weather allows for a stop in the lagoon, snorkeling with stingrays and reef sharks will be added at the end of your excursion. This activity takes place on a shallow sandbar, where the water is waist-deep and you can stand upright. It is suitable for all ages and requires no special physical fitness.
Two options are available:
Swim with the Whales Option — Maximum 6 participants
This option is for participants who wish to enter the water to observe the whales while respecting the animals and complying with current regulations.
Boat-Based Whale Watching Option — Maximum 4 participants
This option allows you to enjoy whale watching comfortably from the boat, without getting in the water with the whales. Snorkeling in the lagoon is, of course, included, with all necessary equipment provided.
The tour is therefore limited to 10 participants: 6 spots for the Swim with the Whales option and 4 spots for the Whale Watching from the Boat option.

- This activity can be quite physically demanding and requires the ability to swim and use snorkeling equipment—fins, mask, and snorkel—effectively. We therefore ask that you be in good physical condition and feel comfortable swimming in the open ocean.
- People prone to motion sickness may experience seasickness. We recommend taking precautions (such as seasickness medication) before the tour.
- There are no restrooms on board. We therefore ask that you use the restroom before the tour. You may also go into the water if necessary.

FOR SWIMMERS
Entry into the water is always subject to approval by our guide, who first assesses the weather conditions, sea conditions, and the whales’ behavior. The safety of participants and respect for the animals remain our top priority.This year, regulations limit the number of people allowed in the water at any one time to a maximum of 7, including the guide, in order to protect and respect the animals.
Regulations also require maintaining a safety distance of no more than 100 meters between the boat and the group. Depending on the whales’ behavior, it may therefore be necessary to swim 100 meters or even further in order to approach them discreetly and without disturbing them.
Wearing a flotation device is mandatory. We provide life jackets specifically designed for snorkeling and compliant with regulations.
For those who do not wish to wear a life jacket, a neoprene wetsuit with a minimum thickness of 3 mm may be worn as an alternative, provided it provides buoyancy that meets safety requirements.

Getting into the water is optional. You may also choose to stay on board and observe the whales from the boat.
FOR OBSERVERS
People who choose to remain on board may observe cetaceans from the boat, while maintaining the required distance of 100 meters.Wearing a life jacket is not required for observers who remain on board.

Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that you will see a whale during your excursion.Humpback whales are wild animals that live in the open ocean. Each whale decides for itself whether or not to allow the boat and the group to approach. The whale’s behavior, as well as weather conditions and sea conditions, can significantly influence the course of the encounter.
Our primary goal is to provide an experience that respects the animals, strictly adhering to regulations and always giving priority to the whales’ natural behavior.

Yes, but swimming is not guaranteed. Regulations and whale behavior determine whether swimming is possible. The whales are wild animals, and the guide only authorizes entry into the water when weather conditions and the animals’ behavior are favorable.
